About

Hi!

I’m Kavita, a 24 year old from the suburbs of Philly. I started The Hungry Tomato in the hopes of channeling my lifelong passion for cooking. To me, food is therapy.. It all started at the age of 7 when I created a concoction I liked to call “Chili soup”. What was Chilli soup, you ask? Well, chilli soup was a mixture of water, lemon juice, paprika, and salt. I was so proud of this culinary breakthrough and wanted to share it so desperately with my grandparents. I “cooked” it for them every time they visited us, and they so willingly drank it. In fact, they always told me it was the best soup they had ever tasted.

Now, whether or not they spat it out when I wasn’t looking, I will never know. But what I do know is that they encouraged and inspired me to continue to create. Today, I am inspired by almost anything I see, taste, or smell – Colors that create magic together, inherently different tastes that blend into perfect harmony, and discovering healthier alternatives to all our favorite indulgences.

I have never been much of a risk-taker and tend to always take the tried and tested route. However, I am increasingly finding that the kitchen is the only place I feel comfortable enough to take chances. Recipes I post here will be risks I have taken in the kitchen, both successful and unsuccessful.

They say laughter is the brightest where food is the best. I don’t know about my food being the best but I sure hope that The Hungry Tomato brings lots of laughter into your kitchen. Thanks for joining me on this journey as I delve into the wonders of the gastronomical world and maybe even learn a thing or two about myself along the way!

xx
